Biography

Max Brinster is a guitarist and teacher based in Eugene, Oregon. Originally from Homer, Alaska, he started playing music at a young age and attended bluegrass camps early on, where he developed a love of fiddle tunes and playing with others.

He later studied classical guitar with Eric Fenger in Homer, and jazz guitar with Peter Herman in Portland, Oregon. While in Portland, Max performed at local venues including The 1905 and played with the gypsy jazz group Hot Club of Hawthorne.

During the pandemic, he returned to Alaska and continued studying with jazz guitarist Nicholas Petumenos, performing around Anchorage in jazz and funk groups and playing as part of the house band at the Fire Island Jazz Jam.

Max is currently studying classical and jazz guitar at Lane Community College and teaches private lessons in Eugene. His teaching focuses on building strong fundamentals, developing musicality, and helping students enjoy the process of learning music—whether they’re picking up the guitar for the first time or looking to grow their skills.
